At our members' ComeTogether in November you can expect exciting ideas from the  Ethics  and  CAE GmbH  focus group!

If you want peace, prepare for war ("si vis pacem, para bellum"): This Latin proverb is being quoted more frequently again these days. The path to peace, it states, leads through deterrence and a military capability that makes a military attack appear hopeless to potential adversaries. In some parts of the world, diplomatic solutions to armed conflicts are currently impossible. What's more, there is growing concern that peace, that "the desired calm in a world characterized by the conflicting powers, a world in upheaval, will no longer be attainable," as the political scientist Herwig Münkler puts it. Germany, too, is gripped by this concern and by the need to make provisions for it.

This has a major impact on the economy. The car production market in Germany is declining drastically. Suppliers are discovering the defense industry as a new business area. Naturally, the companies in these production lines are relying on artificial intelligence and other digital solutions. Last but not least, since ... a company, CAE GmbH in Stolberg, has been a member of digitalHUB eV. By developing and manufacturing simulation products, it acts as a partner for education and training for the Air Force, Navy and Army. How does a community react in the face of these developments? How do its members perceive business models that are being developed in the defense sector? What does it mean for the cohesion in an association like the Hub when differently positioned startups and companies debate together, eat pizza, and celebrate? These aspects will be the focus of the Come together in November, initiated by the Ethics Focus Group.

 Andrea Ellner  , joining us digitally, will provide the impetus for the exchange . She teaches at King's College London and, as a political scientist, has focused on military ethics, including security and peace issues, relations between civil society and the military, and moral injury (the stress experienced after feeling one has acted incorrectly). She is co-director of EuroISME (International Society for Military Ethics in Europe). More about the Members ComeTogether Would you like to get to know the digitalHUB community better?
