sustainabilityBITS – Smart Home muss auch Smart Energy bedeuten

The focus group Sustainability & Social Entrepreneurship invites you to the next edition of "sustainabilityBITS". 



Rising electricity prices and the energy transition are ensuring that more and more people own their own solar systems. However, these are not enough to be 100% independent from the power grid. Galvani Energy develops a smart all-in-one solution for storing and managing electricity based on Redox Flow batteries. But why Redox Flow? Aren't lithium batteries much cheaper ? What does the whole thing have to do with electric cars and NASA? And why smart does not mean smart.

Fréderic-Ian Neuling

Fréderic-Ian Neuling is co-founder and CTO of  Galvani Energy  . An electrical engineering student and trained information technology assistant, his godparents asked him to find a power storage solution for their solar system. Due to concerns, including longevity, they searched for a lithium storage alternative. Ian found what he was looking for at NASA and a paper from 1974: The Redox Flow Battery. Immediately, the first questions arose as to why these were not available for private individuals with solar systems to buy, but also how they could be better integrated into the house. 



The idea for the "sustainabilityBITS" was developed by the participants of the focus group in 2021. The basic idea of "learning by sharing" serves the sharing of experiences and the exchange first within the community. Accordingly, the event is aimed at all digitalHUB Aachen members.



The "sustainabilityBITS" are digital appetizers at lunchtime - 10 minutes of impulses and 20 minutes of discussion - and take place on the last Wednesday of each month.
