"Magnifica humanitas - über die Bewahrung des Menschen im Zeitalter der Künstlichen Intelligenz" | Teil II : Vertiefung

How does Artificial Intelligence change our understanding of what it means to be human? What impact does it have on our communication, our working world, and our social coexistence? These questions are addressed in the second session of the three-part event series on the encyclical  "Magnifica humanitas – über die Bewahrung des Menschen im Zeitalter der Künstlichen Intelligenz"  by Pope Leo XIV. Following the first session, which focused on the fundamental thoughts and guidelines of the document, the "Ethics Focus Group" of the digitalHUB is now dedicating itself to selected ethical questions surrounding the use of Artificial Intelligence. Three areas of focus are at the center of this:

  • The changing image of man: How do technological developments and currents of thought such as trans- and posthumanism change our understanding of man and his abilities?

  • Communication and manipulation: What opportunities and risks arise through AI-supported communication? And how do new possibilities of manipulation influence our opinion formation and our trust in information?

  • Work, dependence and exploitation: How does AI change our working world? What new dependencies can arise and where do risks of exploitation up to forms of modern slavery show themselves?

The Ethics Focus Group guides through the corresponding topics of the encyclical, explains central thoughts and invites to critically reflect on these and discuss them together. Two notes on participation:

  • Open to all faiths: The encyclical is written from a Christian perspective. The questions raised therein, however, are relevant far beyond religious boundaries. People of all faiths are as welcome as people without a religious affiliation.

  • No prior knowledge required: Neither theological prior knowledge nor a prior reading of the document is required for participation.

The Ethics Focus Group looks forward to an exciting exchange and diverse perspectives!
